iGaming Business – Ultimate Gaming, the first real-money online poker website to be legalised and regulated in the US, is to end its operations in Nevada due to a lack of profitability in the state.

The company, majority owned by Las Vegas-based casino-hotel firm Station Casinos, became the first operator to launch a legalised online poker site in Nevada when the state legalised internet gambling activities back in 2013.

The operator, which also halted its service offering in New Jersey in September, has now opted to cease operations in Nevada due to the difficulties of making a profit when online gambling is limited to a pool of players in single states.

In addition to Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware are the only US states to have so far regulated internet gaming.

Players in one state are only able to go head-to-head with other players that are physically located in the same state.

Ultimate Gaming chairman Tom Breitling said in a statement issued to the Associated Press news agency that operating sites in just three states made the business too costly.
